Optimists vs. Pessimists- What You Take For Granted and How It Affects Your Thinking

Image
I've still been thinking about the whole optimists and pessimists thing since writing  Optimists vs. Pessimists  a few months ago. There's a lot of ground I didn't cover. And bear with me here. I'm not pretending to know everything there is to know about this topic. I've never claimed to know everything there is to know about any topic. Heck, I've never even claimed to know much about any topic. A lot of what I've learned in my life has been gleaned through careful observation and inner analysis. This topic is no different. With that out of the way, now I can talk. I've talked about what optimists and pessimists are at the core, but I think I left out something very important. There was an interesting aspect of the topic that I hadn't thought of before. And that is  what we take for granted . What you think about, or rather what you don't bother to think about affects your thinking. The things you consider to always be constant a

Archer and Wick- A Bit of Flash Fiction For You

Image
So I wrote some short scenes with Archer and Wick before I ever wrote the novel to try to get their dynamic down pat, and even after writing the first book in the trilogy, I'm.... still... writing the little scenes? Like, why? I don't know. But I do know that I'm posting some of them for your personal viewing enjoyment. This first one is just a little one I did from a writing prompt in Ready, Set, Novel! where they suggested you write a scene where your characters discuss their first memories. I just gotta say, I love their dynamic in this scene. Click on the image below to be taken straight to the free PDF, and read away! I plan to post some more of these in the future as well, since I have at least one other little scene like this, one short story completed, and another short story stewing in my brain, so keep an eye out for those!! See you on Tuesday with another post!

Gift Ideas for Writers- A Helpful List

Image
Hey, if you have a family member or a friend who's a writer, or if you're just shopping for yourself this Christmas, and you aren't sure what to buy, I have the list for you. Gifts for writers!!! So without further ado, let's talk about what you could buy your writer friends and family members. Notebooks. Obvious, right? Or maybe not. A writer can always use more notebooks. Take a peek inside your friend's desk if you can, and see what kind of notebook they have the most of. Is it lined notebooks? Unlined notebooks? Pretty notebooks? Big memo notebooks? Small notepads? Get them something you think they would like. A subscription to some writing service.  Bonus points if you already know what one they might like. Scrivner, Grammarly, Fictionary, something. Maybe they'd like an Owlcrate subscription. Not strictly writer-ly, I know, but it's such a nerd thing, and I'm sure your friend would like a few boxes as a gift from you. A

The Problem With Your Protagonist Succeeding in the Impossible Task™

Image
Let me set the scene. The protagonist is going on a quest of some kind, and at some point in the journey, they are told of the Impossible Task™. There is something that they absolutely must do to reach their goal, but allegedly it's so impossible that no one before them has ever accomplished it. This is normally when some character pops out the line about 'many have tried, but all have failed'. This would be all well and good, especially since the Impossible Task is such a good way to prove your protagonist's worth in the conflict and show off their skills, but there's a big problem that I notice almost every time this trope appears. The task is, like, super easy?? The protagonist decides to attempt the Impossible Task™ despite the odds. Then they pass with flying colors. Easily. First try. At this point in the narrative, I'm very confused. Why couldn't anybody else ever do this if our young hero got it so easily? The Impossible Task is s

November Wrapup

Image
Ayyyyyy!!! How's everybody doing? I'm still in the potato mode after the end of NaNoWriMo, and to make things worse I've had a cold, so that doesn't help my lethargy hehe. So, what did I do in November? Writing Well, um, I participated in NaNoWriMo? So I did a lot of writing? My finishing numbers were 57,814, which is not as much as I thought it might have been, but it's likely to get longer in editing, so that's just fine. I did manage to keep up ok in the end, which is good. 😊 Aside from that, I did zip writing, to no one's surprise. Art So I'm trying to learn to draw in the manga style so I can do my comics better. I got a few books out of the library, and they're helping a lot! I just have to learn how to do it without the books and straight out of my head instead... So here's a page of random stuff I did out of the books. And here's a schoolgirl model I did, also from the books. I feel like it actually turned out ok
