Gift Ideas for Writers- A Helpful List

Hey, if you have a family member or a friend who's a writer, or if you're just shopping for yourself this Christmas, and you aren't sure what to buy, I have the list for you.

Gifts for writers!!!

So without further ado, let's talk about what you could buy your writer friends and family members.

Notebooks. Obvious, right? Or maybe not. A writer can always use more notebooks. Take a peek inside your friend's desk if you can, and see what kind of notebook they have the most of. Is it lined notebooks? Unlined notebooks? Pretty notebooks? Big memo notebooks? Small notepads? Get them something you think they would like.

A subscription to some writing service. Bonus points if you already know what one they might like. Scrivner, Grammarly, Fictionary, something. Maybe they'd like an Owlcrate subscription. Not strictly writer-ly, I know, but it's such a nerd thing, and I'm sure your friend would like a few boxes as a gift from you.

A Starbucks gift card. The gift of coffee. It doesn't have to be Starbucks. It could be McDonalds, or Bean Rush, or Frothy Monkey, or whatever they like. Get them a gift card that will get them whatever they like best to drink while they're writing.

A book on writing. Trust me, you can always use another book on writing. Writers are always looking to improve their craft, and a book on writing can give new perspective on what they could improve.

If I may make some recommendations:

Writing Magic by Gail Carson Levine (a basic and magical book on writing)
Outlining Your Novel by K.M. Weiland (so many good tips and so helpful when it comes to structuring stories. K.M. Weiland also has multiple other writing books. Just google her.)
Ready, Set, Novel! by Chris Baty (a really fun book)

A cozy sweater. Another thing everyone could use one more of. Get them a cute and comfy sweater to cozy up in while they write. Or a blanket. Or a nice pair of fleece-lined leggings. Something comfy.

Nice pens or pencils. I am always overjoyed to receive more pens and pencils. Especially if they are super cool. Here are some fun ideas for you:

Quill pens, whether real with an inkpot or just a nice pen with a feather on the end.
Ombre pencils!!!!!
Diamond. Ended. Pens. Need I really say more than that?

A typewriter!!!! The greatest gift of all for a writer. I'm pretty sure everyone who's ever seriously wanted to be a writer has wanted this hulking mass of metal to put on their desk and slam out letters on. I mean, the aesthetic alone is without price. But if you can't afford it, don't sweat it! Just choose something above. :)

You could get them one thing from this list, or get a bunch of them and make a writerly gift basket! How fun would that be?? But don't forget, don't stress about it. It's Christmas. If they're a friend or family member worth their salt, they'll appreciate what you get them no matter what you get them. And have a merry Christmas!
