My indie writer journey as it has gone so far.

Image
So I've actually been an indie author(or working on being an indie author) for ages longer than I've talked about it or really had an online presence to mention it. I've wanted to be an author since I started getting into writing at age eleven, and I've always wanted to put my books into the hands of other people. Obviously, like the rest of us did, I eventually did my research and found out that doing what I wanted to do would be very hard, nearly impossible unless I really put my back into it. The world of traditional publishing involved a thousand steps I couldn't understand. But for a while, I thought it was my only real option, and it was what I pursued. There was a time where I desperately wanted to be a part of Harper Collins because I noticed they published almost all my favorite books at the time, and I considered them to be the  publishing house to go with. Bit of a shame that Harper Collins was basically ironclad and impossible to get in touch with. So I ...

uh, so i accidentally disappeared... my bad XD

Hey hey hey, I'm back!! I disappeared, mostly by accident, and before we go back to our sort of regularly scheduled programming, here's my brief explanation for why I've been gone:  Basically, I was getting overwhelmed. You could also say I was overwhelming myself, since the whole writing thing is self-employed(self-inflicted, if you will XD), and I was just getting so drowned by life and trying to build my platform and editing and trying so hard to stay afloat. It was a little crazy. Therefore I had to make a few cuts and take a few breaks to make my brain a good and habitable place again. To sum up those cuts: I'm almost entirely cutting out Twitter. Twitter is just not a very happy place for me anymore, being on there at all was starting to feel like a constant risk, so I'm not going to be there very much anymore. If you loved the funny tweets I put on there, have no fear! I'm trying to channel that energy a different way now, so you should watch this video...

January Wrapup 2020

Image
Writing has actually been pretty good! I'm still trying to get my life back on track after the way October and November went in 2020, and it's taking some time, but I feel like I'm getting stuff together again. Draft 3 of RCOBI is almost done, and almost ready to be sent out to betas for a final read! (and after it goes through the betas/an editor, I'm going to start on the road map to self-publishing it!!) I think the book might finally be more or less airtight, I'm just having people check it over again to make sure there are no glaring problems remaining. I'm really ready to start working on something else lol. Other than that, I drafted a short story or two for fun just so I could stretch my drafting muscles a little, and I want to edit one of those so that everyone can read it. Hopefully you'll see that sometime soon! All righty, here is the art dump for January. dresses What I thought Halsey might look like as a fairy  idk why these are stuck to the ...

December Wrapup 2020

Image
Wow, what a month. I'm fairly certain that December was the only month this year that felt like the length a month is supposed to be, not feeling like 2 days or 8 years(I'm looking at you, March). After everything that 2020 brought me, I was determined that I was gonna feel  the Christmas, baby. I wanted to enjoy this season and not feel like I was screaming all the way through. And I feel like I did that pretty well. But for the sake of not putting everything that needs to go into the 'life' section up here the way I always do, we're gonna cut this introduction short and just get to the content. Let's go! Writing? What is writing? But seriously. After how stressed I was in October through November, I opted to take a writing break in December. In the time in between finishing NaNoWriMo on December 6th(I think?), I wrote all of a few blog posts and one random short story that probably none of you will ever read. Do I feel a little guilty for losing that much writ...

My Goals for 2020 (and how they stacked up against reality lol)

Image
Photo by  Shane  from  Pexels This is gonna be a funny post, I can already tell. Ummmmmmmm as you can guess I didn't accomplish all my 2020 goals the way I thought I would. It's normal for some of your goals to fall by the wayside, because life never goes quite like you planned, but I think it's safe to say that this year didn't go the way anyone  planned at all. It was a train wreck, not gonna lie. XD My goals for 2020 were: Edit and publish Robbing Centaurs and Other Bad Ideas How it went: Um I was not counting on RCOBI needing so much work?? My big plan when I was originally planning a trilogy was to do the first drafts on three consecutive NaNoWriMos, and to edit each one in the eleven months in between each November so that they could be published, boom boom boom, in three years. How realistic of me. *nervous laughing* As it turns out, I am not Rick Riordan and I can't pump out another finished book each fall. I'm close to finishing the edits on RCOBI, or a...

Vlogmas Week One! (and also 2, you can thank me later)

Image
If you're unfamiliar with the concept of Vlogmas, basically it's where you film every day until Christmas in anticipation of the season. It's a real vibe. I'm not much of a vibe myself, unfortunately, but here's my first vlogmas vlog anyway! Someone on Instagram talked me into the idea, and I'm excited to see how it goes! I'm super excited about Christmas. Granted, this video is technically from the first week of December, who knows why it's this late because I don't, but I'm also putting up week 2's vlog today and it's also included in this post! You're welcome. Here's the video, or if for any reason it isn't showing up, here's the link: video And here's week 2! Once again if the video isn't showing up, I got u. Here's the link:  video Are you participating in vlogmas this year? What are you doing to prepare for the season? Let's talk in the comments!

November Wrapup 2020

Image
Ah, November. November was honestly a mixed bag, which I'll explain more below, but it ranged all over the place from good really bad to really good again. For the most part my month was taken up by manically participating in NaNoWriMo, but there were some other things I did as well. ;) This is where the real tea is. As you may know, writing was insane for almost the whole month of October, the last week especially, and I went straight into NaNoWriMo with almost no chill under my belt at all. And as the month progressed and I got more and more desperate to take a break come the beginning of December(despite my word count slowly proving that I would be still working on the novel well into December), the more overwhelmed I got. And writing more words every day with steadily lengthening work shifts was only making it worse. Eventually, I reached a point toward mid-November where both my parents told me it was time to relax about it a little bit and stop focusing on finishing the novel...
