Random Skills For Your Characters To Have

Image
I got here to preview this post before I published it, only to discover that I had written the list and nothing else! No intro, no elaboration, no wrapup. I shake my head in my own self-disappointment. Ah well, here I am now, a little late but here anyway! I like it when characters have skills. Even if the skills aren't super important to the plot. I don't think they have to be important, so long as the character has them. It just provides a little extra intrigue and a little extra well-roundedness to the character. Not to mention, who knows if they'll be useful in the future! So here's a list of random skills your character can have. If you have any other ideas that I didn't include here, let me know what they are in the comments! Maybe I'll do a part 2. Random cool skills for characters: Wood carving Drawing Painting Oil Pastels Knot Tying Sailing Fencing Playing Spoons Beatboxing Street Drummer Knows random trivia Customizes clothes/Tailor Memorizes stuff eas

The Original Outstanding Blogger Award

Image
Ummmm so I'm way late on this post. I don't know how I got tagged in it in late July and am writing this when it's almost October. However! The Original Outstanding Blogger Award entries end at the end of December, so it's ok. *peaceful sounds* In other news, I was actually tagged on this tag?? Who knew this could happen?? There's a scenario where I don't just steal whatever I want and pretend I was tagged?? What a unicorn of a situation. Anyway, I was tagged by Nicole , so thanks, girl.  THE RULES: 1. Provide the link to the creator's original award post. (this is very important: see why in step five)  Fair. 2. Answer the questions provided.  Can do! 3. Create seven unique questions.  Oh, shoot, I'm toast. 4. Nominate ten bloggers. Ensure that they are aware of their nomination. Neither the award's creator nor the blogger that nominated you can be nominated. 5. At the end of 2020, every blog that ping-backs the creator's original post will be e

Watching the approach of NaNoWriMo, told in Trollhunters gifs

Image
Why this post today, you ask? I just wanted to do one of the 'told by gifs' posts again, ok?? Gifs are a gift to humanity(yes, the gif pun was intended) and they're great for meme-making when they're taken totally out of context. Furthermore, I just realized that this is the month I need to start brainstorming for November, and I chose Trollhunters gifs because obviously that show is absolutely amazing and Jim is my child and I would 100% take a bullet for any of the characters unless it's Merlin. *spits on the ground* May Merlin be eaten by a big ugly goblin. One day you look up and realize that the beginning of NaNoWriMo is only 30 precious days away! *le gasp* However you are a seasoned pro, so you know you'll be ready in time. You feel ready to enter the world you've created in your head. Until all of a sudden it's October. Enter stress-eating Live footage of prep season kicking your butt. You try ranting about your troubles to your friends, but they

Songs for my OCs (Characters from my WIP!)

I feel like I haven't shared soundtrack stuff in an age! SO IN THE NAME OF ALL THINGS THAT MAKE ME WANNA WRITE, I'M GONNA SHARE SOME. I think this time around I'm going to share specific lyrics because I saw it on someone else's blog as a way of introducing the cast of the story, and as all writers do, I said 'hmm what a good idea how about I steals it.' Of course, we all know that Archer's probably going to have the most because I have like a thousand songs for him on my playlist. But whatever! SO LET'S DO IT OK Archer The chaos child | Crazy and unpredictable | Never stops talking | Don't leave unsupervised If you ask me to change / I don't know if I can / I 'll always be who I am... I'm a wanted man (Wanted Man, Royal Deluxe) First things first, imma say all the words inside my head (Believer, Imagine Dragons) I jump from the train, I ride off alone /  I never grew up, it's getting so old (The Archer, Taylor Swift) I was left to my

6 Ways To Name Chapters If You're Bad At It

Image
I'm bad at naming chapters. The worst, actually. I used to write out the whole chapter without naming it, then go back through, agonizing over what to use as the title name. All the titles I could think of were either over-the-top or just lame. It was a pain for so long before I finally started paying attention to the chapter titles in other books and realized that a traditional chapter title was not required. I really have no idea if this is a common issue with other writers, for all I know everyone else can name chapters with less effort than it takes to blink. But if it's hard for you like it's hard for me, keep reading. This one's for you. ;) Idea #1: Don't name them! Just use numbers. You don't always need a title, and frankly, readers put very little pressure on you to title them in the first place. You can skip the name and just give the chapter a number. And there are many ways to number, too! You can use just plain numbers(20,21,22) or write them out(Tw

What I'd Wear If I Was In ____ | Making Outfits Based on Books!

I did another videooooooooooooo. No, don't click away. I know people don't read the posts about YouTube videos for some reason, and I'm not sure why? I mean, videos are awesome? If you know why please tell me so I can fix whatever the problem is! Anyhoo, I thought it would be fun to try the whole trend of 'what I'd wear if I was in X book', because it sounded super fun! I roped my sister into it, and we took a whole morning last week to vlog and film that video. So here it is! The video should be here, but if for any reason it isn't showing up, here is the link: video What did you think? What book would you be a character in if you had to choose? Let's talk in the comments!

August Wrapup 2020

Image
Hellooooooooooooo! Pretty sure I didn't mean to take the first week of the month off from blogging in both August and  September, but here we are. I wanted to take a 100% writing break for a week to get my creative well filled again. So, August. The month we all fill with a panicked kind of fun as autumn looms closer. And boy was it a sticky one. August was... ultimately pretty fun? I actually did do a few things, and now I'm enjoying the last bits of warm weather before (hopefully) crisp fall sets in. For real though please I wanna wear hoodies without sweating So let's see what I did! In August I was feeling pretty burnt out, and I don't even know why. I was just trying to push through editing, but it was always more changes, more changes, more changes, more words, more words, more words, and I always felt so tired when I sat down to write. Granted, they were all important changes, and I'm learning from my mistakes as I go, but it can get tiring after a while. So
