Cool Cultural Things To Add To Your Fictional World

Image
Worldbuilding might be my favorite part of the writing process. I always love to build places I might want to live in, and I always want to make my worlds like nothing I've ever seen before. And I notice that a lot anymore, the worlds in the books I read are becoming more European and American, and less like the older, more regal cultures like Africans, Native Americans, and Inuits. There are some gorgeous details in these people's lives! And they can definitely be used for our worlds. So let's get some ideas! The concept of "My homeland". Loyalty to one's country of origin is something that people feel less and less these days. Many people have immigrated to where they live, or their roots aren't deep enough for them to really feel a special connection to where they live. But in older cultures, people were and are extremely loyal to where they live. Sure, there might be some problems, but they would defend their land until their dying breath.

The Shared WIP Tag 5- Bonus Party! (Crash and Burn aesthetics and more)

Image
Before we get started, there is something I must!!! Say!!! CRASH AND BURN IS OFFICIALLY OUT!!! There was a lot of stress, a lot of hard work, a lot of networking, but it is now out!! And I'm so happy!! And I know you would love it so you must read it!! You can get the ebook for $2.99 or the paperback for $7.99 here . This. This. This is what I've been looking forward to the whole time doing this tag. This is the part where I get to make AESTHETICS!!!!!!! Okay, I took about a half an hour in Picmonkey, and here you aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrreeee!!! Beholdeth! The Lexie aesthetic!! We got skateboards. We got computers. We got quotes. We got freaking Instagram filters! It is magnificent!! Beholdeth once more! The Abby aesthetic!! Some of these pictures may be familiar to you because I already used them to show you what she looked like! But I don't care! All the smiles are making me smile and I love it! Beholdeth one last time!! I have

The Shared WIP Tag 4- Side Characters and Worldbuilding

Image
Oh, joy! Oh, happy day! I have now lured you into a post about my excessive number of side characters! You'll regret you ever came! So let's get started before you come to your senses! But first a related tweet: Me: *decides I want a small cast of characters this time, only two or three major characters* 3 scenes later: *my cast now includes 1875763982 characters* #writerslife #writinglife #writerproblems #writinghumor — Scribbled Fiction (@ScribbldFiction) March 13, 2019 Now on to it! Who is the SC that is the closest to your MC? Welllllll, technically Abby, but I don't really think of Abby as a side character. I feel like she's on a completely different plane of existence. So after her, I'm gonna say Alf, because he's there for most of the story, and he's very helpful. For your enjoyment, here is a brief and non-exhaustive list of the SC's in Crash and Burn(more or less in order respective to the amount of page time they get):

2 More Humor Shorts! (because nobody asked)

Image
Clearly I've been watching too much of Daniel Thrasher, John Crist, and various vines, because now I have uploaded two first-person shorts to the Scribbled Fiction channel (on which I finally did recompile the Crash and Burn novel playlist, by the way!!!), and here they are! (Also I have been brain-crunchingly busy with the book release this entire month, so I completely forgot to edit, let alone upload the second one until just this morning but whatever. I got it done.) When You Can't Focus On Just One Character... When ideas come to you in the night This second one may include the creepiest shot of me I've caught on video to date. XD Ok, I gotta go back to panicking about Saturday and the book release some more. I'll see you on Thursday for another post! If you liked these check out: The Writer's Water Cycle (my first humor video!)

Conversations Every Writer Has Had (a humor post)

Image
Alas, I had all the WIP posts all written out at the beginning of the month, but I didn't have Thursday's post ready for this week or next week, so now actually need to write something rather than doing a quick round of spell-checking and hitting Publish. And I have too much to do today and not nearly  enough time to do it in, so let's get started before I blink and the sun's already gone down. Conversations every writer has had: "Oh, you're a writer? How do you plan to support yourself?" 1. That is none of your business, my good sir. 2. Um, you can make a living off of being a writer if you work your butt off night and day and never do anything else, in case you didn't know. 3. And yeah, I'll have another job while I work on my craft, if you must know. It's almost impossible to make writing a full-time job and that is my burden to bear, why would you even bring this up I must now leave to cry in a corner. "How's wr

The Shared WIP Tag 3- The Antagonist

Image
So we've got a small problem here because the book doesn't really have an antagonist. The main antagonist is time and circumstance, with a slightly more minor villain being people and general opinion. So, this is the part where I answer the questions anyway and pretend I'm funny. Lets-a go! (excuse me while I also pretend I'm Mario) Introduce the main antagonist (VILLAIN) of your book! Sky, Time, Circumstance, (and also People and General Opinion), meet the readers! They're good people, don't beat them up. Hey, put that down! Readers, meet, um, these people. I can't say much for them. They just are . What do you (the writer) have in common with the antagonist?  What do you not have in common? Last time I had something in common with Time was when I waved to him as he went past, so not a lot? What do we not have in common? Everything. What does your antagonist do when he/she is mad?  Do they have a soft spot? When the sky

April Tweet Dump

Image
Nobody's asked me to stop doing this yet, so we're doing it again this month! April tweets: Begin! First, my April Fool's joke, which I actually got someone to fall for: So done with doing #writinghumor . This feed is now devoted to exclusively vegan soy bun recipes and beige color swatches. #aprilfools — Scribbled Fiction (@ScribbldFiction) April 1, 2019 Things I need in order to accomplish my writing: laptop, my outline, paper and pencil for notes, my water bottle, a slice of cake, three camels, a blood sacrifice, the correct alignment of the stars... #writerslife #amwriting #writinghumor — Scribbled Fiction (@ScribbldFiction) April 1, 2019 One of these days my very old, slightly broken, overheating laptop is going to burn straight through my comforter. #amwriting #writerslife #writinghumor #techproblems — Scribbled Fiction (@ScribbldFiction) April 1, 2019 The good news is, I'm getting a new laptop soon. So hopefully the laptop doesn

The Shared WIP Tag 2- Protagonist Questions + Some Very Important News!!

Image
So, Very Important News first. My book, this book, my editing project, Crash and Burn is going to be released THIS. MONTH!!!! On the 25th of May, this project will finally be out!!  Pray for me and all that I have to do before and after the book release, but I think it's ready! So prepare yourselves for the release, because it's gonna be good!!! Okay, time to talk about my protagonist! She'll hate me for doing this, but I love her and I feel like she's such a great character, so like it or not, girl, we're doing this! On a completely unrelated note to the 'she's a great character' bit, I didn't realize how much I didn't know about her until I read the questions for this. Forgive me, but (singing) I'm only human... Introduce your MC a little (name, maybe a description or picture, etc,) and tell us something quirky about them. Lexie's appearance Lexie's vibe. As you can see from both these pictures,  she hate
