My Goals for 2020 (and how they stacked up against reality lol)

Image
Photo by  Shane  from  Pexels This is gonna be a funny post, I can already tell. Ummmmmmmm as you can guess I didn't accomplish all my 2020 goals the way I thought I would. It's normal for some of your goals to fall by the wayside, because life never goes quite like you planned, but I think it's safe to say that this year didn't go the way anyone  planned at all. It was a train wreck, not gonna lie. XD My goals for 2020 were: Edit and publish Robbing Centaurs and Other Bad Ideas How it went: Um I was not counting on RCOBI needing so much work?? My big plan when I was originally planning a trilogy was to do the first drafts on three consecutive NaNoWriMos, and to edit each one in the eleven months in between each November so that they could be published, boom boom boom, in three years. How realistic of me. *nervous laughing* As it turns out, I am not Rick Riordan and I can't pump out another finished book each fall. I'm close to finishing the edits on RCOBI, or a

A lil Christmas drawing for you

Image
We don't have anything fancy today, nothing too special, just some art of my boys. ❤️ Funny story here, because I had the idea to do a Christmas drawing at the beginning of the month, so I took time this past week to get the drawing on paper. And I kind of hated how it turned out? Don't get me wrong, it's not a BAD drawing, it's just not what I wanted. The style doesn't look very good to me at all, and the faces look strange. Therefore! I tried again. Knowing full well that all drawings turn out better if you don't care how they turn out, I opted to do a rough sketch and not care how it turned out. So we ended up with this: And granted, this one ALSO isn't perfect, but! I like it a lot better. It doesn't have the clean lines and when colors of the first one, but it has better energy and also the snow?? It's my favorite part?? My(18yo) brother saw it and his first and most important question was apparently "where are they going?" To which I

About the Baby Yoda/egg eating controversy...

Image
[If you haven't seen at least up to the Asokah episode of the Mandalorian, you're probably going to find spoilers. You've been warned.] So here's the thing, guys. For some reason with this season of the Mandalorian, people are causing controversy with almost every episode? I don't know if it's just people taking out their 2020 tension, or if there's actually something to cause a controversy about, but that's what seems to be happening. But we're not talking about all the controversies on a whole. Today we're just talking about one: the egg-eating controversy. And why I think people are way overreacting to it. So here it is: first of all, Baby Yoda himself. Even though I'm a little confused on how his obvious baby maturity and baby noises stack up against how he's been trained under many masters and seen the rise and fall of empires, the thing is that he's still a baby. Albeit a very confusing baby. The 50 years old thing and still bei

Lesser Used Settings In Fantasy

Image
Spare me your woodlands and your small villages. I got something better for you. Underwater Give me Little Mermaid aesthetic, give me people who have a city in a bubble on the bottom of the sea, give me trenches that are actually filled with the magic wielders that abandoned the world above, I'll take it all. In space Can we talk about how few and far between magic in space tropes are used? I get that people don't really want fantasy/sci-fi crossovers, but there is still so much potential aside from that! Ships(not spaceships, we're talking wood) that fly through the stars via fairy dust! Sirens in the center of black holes! Werewolves that have taken control of their situation by living on the moon and only going to the light side of it when they want to hunt! This can be done, people! The mountains There are ways to use the mountains that aren't your standard fantasy woodland settings. Give me a kingdom that only spans the mountain range and they have mortal enemies b

Vlogmas Week One! (and also 2, you can thank me later)

Image
If you're unfamiliar with the concept of Vlogmas, basically it's where you film every day until Christmas in anticipation of the season. It's a real vibe. I'm not much of a vibe myself, unfortunately, but here's my first vlogmas vlog anyway! Someone on Instagram talked me into the idea, and I'm excited to see how it goes! I'm super excited about Christmas. Granted, this video is technically from the first week of December, who knows why it's this late because I don't, but I'm also putting up week 2's vlog today and it's also included in this post! You're welcome. Here's the video, or if for any reason it isn't showing up, here's the link: video And here's week 2! Once again if the video isn't showing up, I got u. November Wrapup 2020

Image
Ah, November. November was honestly a mixed bag, which I'll explain more below, but it ranged all over the place from good really bad to really good again. For the most part my month was taken up by manically participating in NaNoWriMo, but there were some other things I did as well. ;) This is where the real tea is. As you may know, writing was insane for almost the whole month of October, the last week especially, and I went straight into NaNoWriMo with almost no chill under my belt at all. And as the month progressed and I got more and more desperate to take a break come the beginning of December(despite my word count slowly proving that I would be still working on the novel well into December), the more overwhelmed I got. And writing more words every day with steadily lengthening work shifts was only making it worse. Eventually, I reached a point toward mid-November where both my parents told me it was time to relax about it a little bit and stop focusing on finishing the novel

My struggle with writing girl protagonists

Image
I've written very few girl protagonists. No, it's true. If you were to look at the list of all the protagonists I've written, the list of girls would be much shorter than the guys. Even when I think about my latest WIP, it's pretty guy-heavy. Let's take a look, shall we? Jack, Thief's Son : The protagonist is Jack, a guy, and the villain is a guy. Javi and the Boats in the Sky (2018), has a boy as the protagonist.  NaNoWriMo 2017, Spectacular:  Guy protagonist. Robbing Centaurs and Other Bad Ideas (2019): Not one, but 2  guys as the protagonists. In addition, the mentor is a guy, and most of the main characters are guys too, something that I'm trying to fix, because I want more girls in there. Why do I write so many boys, you ask? *scratches head* Honestly I'm not sure. That's what I'm here to explore. Honestly, I couldn't even figure out all these reasons by myself, so I had my sister discuss with me. Thanks, Rach, you're the best. <
