Moments of Vulnerability For Your Character

There's just something about people when they're vulnerable, isn't there? And I love to see characters vulnerable. It's kind of like peeling off an extraneous level of their character and getting to see what's underneath. A deeper section of the character. I love it.

So if you want to add some moments of vulnerability for your character, I have got the list for you.

  • Just out of the shower (and I'm NOT talking about when they're caught in a towel. Not attractive. I'm talking about when they've just changed back into their clothes and they're just a little cold and their hair is still wet.)
  • While reading a book. Especially if it's a book they love. There's a certain way people look when they're reading a book.
  • While sick. If you've come to this list for cute moments for the couple you're writing, this one's perfect. One of them looking after the other while they're sick is so very sweet, and no one's guard can really be up while they're sick or caring for someone who is sick, so it makes for a good moment of vulnerability.
  • When faced with something emotionally difficult. Something from their past, something that they've never been able to face, or just something that challenges them emotionally, like helping in a homeless shelter. Emotional challenges.
  • Newly awake in the morning. Similar to the first idea on this list, first thing in the morning is a moment where no one is fully ready to have their guard up, and since some of your characters might not be even fully awake yet, conversations at this time can be very sweet.
  • Being bad at something, or new at something. Because watching people flounder at something they don't get is fun.
  • Being faced with something so horrible they can't even comprehend it.
  • With a headache.
  • With their mother. Watching all your sweet and loveable but maybe sometimes guarded characters run to a lady and call her 'mom' is the darned cutest thing ever. Everyone's personality changes around their parents. I love it.
  • Forced to give up a secret.
  • Talking about something that matters deeply to them, like a cause or a specific belief.

Well that's all for today! See you on Tuesday! And don't forget to check out some more like this on my blog by clicking the individual tags at the bottom of this post! See ya!
